American food

I went to Centre Parcs a good month ago for my birthday. We went out for dinner and ended up going to an American restaurant called Hucks.

The food wasn’t too bad as I usually associate American with burgers and big plates of food! The sizes of these plates were just enough for one person.

The atmosphere was really good, although there were a lot of kids running around! They had Back to the Future on the television and songs playing in the background.

So what did we have as a starter? We had:

– Sweet and smoky BBQ chicken wings

– Jalapeño and sweetcorn fritters

The chicken wings were nice and sticky and definitely have the smoky flavour. It wasn’t too sweet; which was good as it means it wasn’t sickly! We ended up ordering 2 of those!

The jalapeño and sweetcorn fritters were lush! It came with a zingy lime and tequila dip. The batter was light and it was so crispy. If I didn’t have to share them I would have eaten them all!

So onto the mains. We all ended up having the steak. It was a 10oz flat iron steak. I’ve never had a flat iron steak before but it was very nice. I asked them to cook it medium as I don’t like mine bloody! You can choose your preferred potato side… There were fries or a hassleback potato. Hassleback potato is where there are slices in the potato (not all the way through) and when it cooks the slits open up! I chose the hassleback potato. It was cooked nicely with the perfect crunch.

Now, you may not see a lot of desserts on here as I don’t have a sweet tooth, but if they have something that I like the sound of then I would get it.

So for dessert I had Doughnut. Yes, it is what it says it is… It was sugared doughnuts with warm raspberries, strawberries and blueberries with vanilla ice cream. I love doughnuts and all the fruity bits. It wasn’t very sweet and I even had 3 of my 5 a day! The doughnuts were soft and paired with the fruit and coulis, I was in heaven. I didn’t want that dessert to end.

All in all, it was a fabulous meal. So if you have Hucks near you, you should really give it a go!
