Did someone say steak?!

Where: Miller and Carter, Southampton

I planned a surprise birthday dinner for my dad’s 70th and I wanted it to be a special one so we went to Miller and Carter.

My cousin’s husband said it was brilliant so we’ve had our hopes on this place being super lush!

So we had my family and my cousin’s family celebrating and it was safe to say everyone enjoyed it.

We had starter of 2 seafood sharing boards; which had Lobster & samphire rillette, smoked salmon, salt & pepper calamari with black garlic aioli, churrasco prawns served with artisan breads. The calamari was more salty than peppery; which I wasn’t a fan of but the rest of the platter was average.

Everyone obviously had steak but the kids had chicken! I ordered the black Angus sirloin (medium) with peppercorn sauce. Now I’ve always had peppercorn sauce with my steak and you can rarely taste the peppercorn, but this one had the fiery peppercorn flavour and it worked well with my steak. The steak was cooked to perfection, still a little pink inside and it was lush. It also came with a wedge of lettuce and you can choose the sauce. I chose the bacon and honey mustard sauce. The lettuce added a bit of freshness to your plate and the sauce was nice.

So all in all, it was great experience and I would definitely go again; only on special occasions!

We ended the evening with a birthday cake and it was made by Smile Ann. It was half chestnut and half fresh mango cake. I think my dad enjoyed his evening.

Do you have a Miller and Carter near you? If you do, I’d recommend you go and give it a try.
