Foodie weekends

I’ve had a couple of foodie weekends in September. The Hamble Valley Food Festival, Winchester Farmer’s Market (not a food festival but it was still a Foodie day!) and The Hampshire Food and Music Emporium.

The Hamble Valley Food Festival and the Winchester Farmer’s Market had lots of little stalls that you can try and buy. Both of those days I had a hot dog or a burger for breakfast! It was the best breakfast. The hot dog at Hamble Valley was a footlong wild boar sausage! It wasn’t tough and the flavour was amazing, it didn’t taste gamey either. The burger at Winchester was a water buffalo burger. This was so succulent and juicy and I actually wanted another one!

I bought a kedgeree scotch egg and a lamb, redcurrant and rosemary pie; both from Hamble Valley. I’ve never had a kedgeree scotch egg but it actually worked quite well. I thought it may have crumbled a bit due to it being rice but it held together very well. You can taste the curry flavour but it wasn’t overwhelming. The pie was just amazing. I love lamb and I love pie with lots of gravy in (there’s nothing worse than a dry pie). The lamb was soft as you like and you can taste the cranberry and rosemary. The pastry was also quite thin; I’m not too keen on thick pastry!

At Winchester I bought a seafood paella for lunch. This was nice but there wasn’t much seafood flavour to it and the seafood was OK. Not much to rave about but it was still edible.

The Food and Music Emporium in Southampton was an amazing day out. So many food stalls and to top it off the weather was just lush.

Tibet momos (dumplings) – I had the beef with ginger and garlic momos to start off my day. The dough was a little bit thick for my liking but the filling was nice. It came with a salad and some chilli “sauce.” I say “sauce” because it was more like a chilli salsa! The salad was nice, it was red cabbage and some vermicelli noodles.

Korean BBQ Beef with noodles – this was a little sweet for me and the beef were quite dry and tough. In my opinion they put too much sweet BBQ sauce at the end! The noodles were nice though!

Brazilian BBQ meat – wow now this was amazing. So much meat; it had rump steak, chicken thighs and pork sausage. It also came with some rice and salad. The plate was huge, the meat was good. I especially liked the rump steak. The chicken thigh was a little bit burnt for me but the sausage had so much flavour in it and it wasn’t tough.

Canadian whiskey and maple BBQ chicken wings – I’ve never had whiskey and maple BBQ chicken wings before. When you think of maple you would think its sweet (and I generally don’t like sweet things) but I was actually surprised! The chicken wings weren’t sweet and the skin was so crispy! I ate alot of it… The wasps loved it too….

Purbeck ice cream – I’ve always seen Purbeck ice cream at food festivals but never tried it. So as the weather wa sunny I went for the ice cream. Mine was the honeycomb, it had so much honeycomb pieces in it and the ice cream was so creamy! Definitely recommend.
